Trump Teases 'Major Announcement': 'America Needs a Superhero'

Posted by Larita Shotwell on Wednesday, April 10, 2024

Former President Donald Trump said he will be making a "major announcement" on Thursday.

Trump teased the announcement in a Wednesday morning post on his social network platform Truth Social.

"AMERICA NEEDS A SUPERHERO! I will be making a MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT tomorrow," Trump's post said. "Thank you!"

Accompanying his post was a 15-second video that begins with Trump looking into a camera and saying, "America needs a superhero." The video then shows a cartoon image of Trump styled to look like Superman.

In the image, Trump stands in front of Trump Tower as he pulls his suit jacket and shirt aside to reveal a red uniform on which there is a "T" for Trump instead of Superman's "S." Laser beams appear to be shooting out of his eyes as triumphant music plays in the background.

The video then pivots to a black screen, on which text reading "MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT" and Thursday's date appears.

Trump did not elaborate in his post on what his announcement will entail. Newsweek reached out to Trump's office for comment.

The Thursday announcement will come a month after Trump declared his intent to run for president in 2024. He made his 2024 campaign announcement during an evening event on November 15 at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida.

Trump repeatedly hinted that he wanted to run for another term in office before making his 2024 run official, hints he began dropping shortly after leaving the White House in January of 2021. Early polling indicated he was Republican voters' top GOP contender, though his lead over other potential challengers has declined in the second half of 2022.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is one possible primary contender who is rising in the polls, with some results released this month suggesting DeSantis is leading as Republican voters' top choice. DeSantis, who won another term as governor during the midterm elections last month, has not said if he is considering a run for president.

Trump's Thursday announcement will also come amid his rising legal issues. Trump is being investigated for his activities during the riot at the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6, 2021, and separately for classified documents that were found at his Mar-a-Lago home after he left office. Last week, the Trump Organization was found guilty in a tax fraud case brought against the company in New York, though Trump was not personally on trial in that case.
