Are Liquor Stores Open Today? 4th of July Weekend Hours

Posted by Larita Shotwell on Monday, September 9, 2024

As July 4, or Independence Day, is a federal holiday, many non-essential government services will be closed for the day. While this won't affect liquor stores across the U.S., some states have state-run liquor stores that may be impacted by the July 4 holiday.

Liquor laws vary by state, and sometimes even by county, so before heading out on a liquor run on July 4, make sure you understand your local liquor laws. Stocking up beforehand on July 3 could be your best option, to ensure that you're not caught short on the day.

States with State-Run Liquor Stores

  • Alabama
  • Idaho
  • New Hampshire
  • North Carolina
  • Pennsylvania
  • Utah
  • Virginia

Alabama

The Alabama ABC Board has yet to announce whether or not its state-run liquor stores will be open on July 4, but they are open on all other holidays except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.

In Alabama, 24 of the state's 67 counties are dry, but there are 55 wet cities in dry counties.

New Hampshire's outlets are hosting a sale in honor of July 4, however, and is offering 15 percent off the purchase of 12 or more bottles of Champagne and sparkling wines.
