Si Spencer fans have been patiently awaiting the release of the Netflix adaptation of his thrilling novel - but, finally, Bodies became available to watch on the streaming platform.

Based on the mind-bending titular book by the novelist, who passed away aged 59 in 2021, the new eight-part series is centred around four detectives, four timelines and one body.

Created by Paul Tomalin and starring Stephen Graham as the mysterious political leader Elias Mannix, the series is set across a period from 1890 to 2053 - in which the same murder occurs multiple times over the 150 years span.

When the same body is found on Longharvest Lane in London's East End in 1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053, one detective from each period must investigate.

But, is the eerie Longharvest Lane a real place? And where are all of the seemingly East End locations from the drama really based? Find out more below.

Is Longharvest Lane a real place?

The show's plot surrounds the same naked dead man found in the same street in Whitechapel, east London - a grimy, barren, tunnel-led alleyway overgrown in foliage, named Longharvest Lane.

Fortunately, the sinister East End street is only fiction, as the scenes in Longharvest Lane and the surrounding area were actually shot in Sheffield.

Where was the show filmed and where are the scene locations based?

According to iNews, the scenes depicting Whitechapel and its surrounding area were actually filmed in Hull and Bradford.

There were also sightings of film crews filming the show in Hull Old Town and Princes Quay shopping centre in Hull.

National World reported that the filming in Bradford took place City Hall, Salts Mill, and Burnett Street in Little Germany.

The 2053 scenes were shot in Lister Mills - the largest silk factory in the world - in the Manningham district of Bradford.

Further scenes from the show were filmed in Leeds, Rotherham, Grimsby and Bolton.

Filming in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, took place at the opulent Grade I listed country home, Wentworth Woodhouse.

According to The Bolton News, film crews rolled into Bolton town centre in September 2022 to shoot scenes for the series.

The crew chose Le Mans Crescent as a site to film some Victorian period scenes, with the historical location previously used in many a hit drama - including Peaky Blinders, of which Graham also had a starring role.

Le Mans Crescent was established in 1862 by Jonas James, and now houses a public museum, aquarium and art gallery after being acquired by Bolton Library and Museum Service.

In conclusion, the majority of the series was not filmed in Whitechapel, or London - much was filmed in and around Yorkshire.
