A New York City police detective who moonlighted as a brutal hitman for the mob in the 1980s has died in prison while serving a life sentence. Convicted killer Stephen Caracappa died on Saturday while in detention at a federal medical facility in Butner, North Carolina, federal records show. He was 75.
